Indian Festivals – Onam

Happy Onam ! Onam is a harvest festival celebrated by hindus in Kerala, India. The festival commemorates King Mahabali, whose spirit is believed to visit Kerala. Celebrations include street parades with colourful floats, dancers and musicians and a snake boat race held on the Pampa River. The hindu temples in Kerala are decorated with lamps and palmyra trees are erected in front of the temples. Onam begins on August 12th and ends on August 23rd.
