World Laughter Day was founded in the year 1998 by an Indian doctor, Madan Kataria, who was also the founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. This day dedicated to laughter is celebrated every year on May 2nd. It is celebrated in India by gatherings of people in public places with the sole purpose of laughing.
