Wishing all Indians a Happy Holi!
Holi, the Indian “Festival of Colors” is celebrated across India during the full moon of the Hindu Lunar calendar. The Holi festival symbolizes the beginning of Spring and the conquest of good over evil. During this fun filled festive time, Indians throw brightly colored powder and colored-water on each other. The color of the powder used during Holi has a distinct symbolism attached to it – blue is symbolic of Lord Krishna, red represents love and fertility, green symbolizes spring and new beginnings, while yellow is the color of turmeric, an Indian spice with medicinal benefits. Huge bonfires are lit on the eve of Holi to set negative forces ablaze. Holi is the great equalizer, with people forgetting differences in social status on this joyous occasion. India celebrates Holi on March 20th- 21st this year.
