Chinese Festival – Ching Ming

Ching Ming or “Tomb Sweeping Day” is a Chinese national holiday that honours the dead. In the Chinese language, Ching means clean and Ming brightness. On this occasion, Chinese show respect for their ancestors by cleaning and beautifying the graves and urns of their ancestors. Weeds are removed from grave plots and people offer the deceased their favourite food and wine as a tribute. Chinese burn incense to appease the dead and burn paper money to ensure that the deceased are not poor in the afterlife. Culture Buff Chinese Values Games leverage visual culture stories from everyday life and history to teach students, expatriates, study abroad program and work travel program participants about Chinese values, traditions and culture.
