Indian Culture – Happy Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti, a Hindu festival, marks the movement of the sun into the northern hemisphere which is considered auspicious in the Hindu tradition. This festival marks the end of winter and the start of the harvest season. It is celebrated across India with colourful paper kites dotting the sky. Hindus take a dip in the Ganga, Yamuna, Kaveri, Godavari and Kaveri rivers, build bonfires and make desserts. Makar Sankranti is celebrated on 14th of January this year.
