Diwali or Deepavali is a five day Festival of Light celebrated by Indians and by the Indian diaspora across the globe. Rooted in Hinduism, Diwali commemorates the triumph of good over evil and hope over darkness. Rangoli artworks or colorful geometric patterns which are believed to attract good luck are created on floors using rice or powder. Homes are decorated with tiny electric lights or small clay lamps called diyas. Fireworks are set off at night and the sky is transformed into a spectacular display of light. Based on the lunar calendar, Diwali is celebrated on five days (Nov 12th -16th) with the main event taking place on November 14th.
